Advanced Open Water Diver

The Advanced Open Water Diver course is about gaining real experience and becoming a more capable, confident diver. Across five instructor-led dives, you’ll explore different types of diving and develop skills in new environments. Deep Diving and Navigation are part of every course, while the remaining dives can be selected from options such as wreck, buoyancy, currents, ecology-focused diving and night diving, depending on conditions and availability.

Roatan is an ideal place to take that next step, with clear Caribbean water, walls, wrecks and varied reef sites within easy reach. Your instructor will brief and guide you throughout each dive, helping you refine buoyancy, navigation, dive planning and underwater awareness rather than simply completing five dives. We keep groups small, provide all required equipment including a dive computer, and adapt the training to your experience and confidence level.

What You’ll Learn

  • Plan and manage dives to greater depths
  • Navigate underwater more confidently using both natural references and a compass
  • Improve buoyancy, trim and control in different diving conditions
  • Adapt your diving skills to different environments
  • Strengthen dive planning & buddy communication
  • Develop better awareness of Reefs environment and how to dive responsibly around marine life and coral

What You’ll Achieve

  • Earn your SSI Advanced Open Water Diver certification
  • Extend your maximum depth to 30 m / 100 ft
  • Gain experience across five different adventure dives
  • Improve navigation, buoyancy, dive planning and confidence in varied conditions
  • Build the skills to take on more challenging dive environments and future specialty training

*Junior depth limits apply to younger divers.

Enriched Air Nitrox

Nitrox is a practical specialty for divers who want more flexibility in their dive planning, especially on trips with multiple dives or repetitive diving days. By using a breathing gas with a higher oxygen percentage than regular air, you can reduce nitrogen exposure and, depending on the dive profile, increase your no-decompression limits.

The course is completed in one day and does not require training dives, making it an easy addition to an existing certification. Your instructor will focus on the practical side of using Nitrox safely, so you leave knowing how to check your gas, understand its limits and use it confidently wherever you dive.

What You’ll Learn

  • How Nitrox changes nitrogen exposure and no-decompression limits
  • How to calculate and respect maximum operating depth (MOD)
  • How oxygen exposure affects safe dive planning
  • How to analyze a cylinder and verify the oxygen percentage
  • How to label and document Nitrox cylinders correctly
  • How to configure your dive computer for enriched air
  •

What You’ll Achieve

  • Earn your SSI Enriched Air Nitrox 40 certification
  • Become qualified to use Nitrox mixtures containing up to 40% oxygen
  • Gain the confidence to verify and use Nitrox independently
  • Add a valuable certification for dive travel, liveaboards and repetitive diving
  • Apply Nitrox safely to suitable dive profiles around the world

Deep Diving Specialty

The Deep Diving Specialty is designed for certified divers who want to explore beyond the usual recreational depth range with better planning, control and awareness. Your instructor will guide you through deeper dive procedures, helping you understand how depth changes gas consumption, no-decompression limits, buoyancy, communication and overall dive management.

Across three open water training dives, you’ll build experience progressively and learn how to approach deeper dives with more confidence and discipline. Roatan’s walls and deeper reef sites provide an excellent environment for this training, while small groups and close instructor supervision keep the focus on safe decision-making, practical skills and controlled progression toward a maximum training depth of 40 m / 130 ft.

.

What You’ll Learn

  • How to calculate and monitor your gas consumption for deeper dives
  • How to use your dive computer to manage depth, no-decompression limits and ascent planning
  • How to recognize and respond to the effects of nitrogen narcosis
  • How to maintain precise buoyancy and control at depth
  • How to complete deeper descents and ascents with proper buddy contact and communication
  • How to use a safety cylinder / alternate gas source during deeper-dive trainin

What You’ll Achieve

  • Earn your SSI Deep Diving Specialty certification
  • Extend your recommended recreational diving depth to 40 m / 130 ft
  • Gain practical experience planning and conducting deeper dives with better gas awareness and contro
  • Improve your ability to manage narcosis, buoyancy and no-decompression limits at greater depth
  • Build the confidence and discipline needed for more advanced dive environments
  • Create a stronger foundation for future advanced and specialty training

Perfect Buoyancy Specialty

Perfect Buoyancy is designed for certified divers who want to feel more relaxed, controlled and efficient underwater. Your instructor will help you refine weighting, trim, body position and breathing so you can hover more easily, move with less effort and maintain better control throughout the dive.

The course focuses on practical improvement rather than simply completing dives. Through focused in-water training, you’ll work on reducing unnecessary movement, improving finning and position, and becoming more aware of how your body affects buoyancy. Better control can also help reduce gas consumption and makes it easier to dive close to the reef without touching or damaging the environment.

.

What You’ll Learn

  • How to fine-tune your weighting and buoyancy control
  • How to improve trim and body position underwater
  • How breathing affects buoyancy and stability
  • How to hover more comfortably and make smaller, more controlled adjustments
  • How to use more efficient finning and movement techniques
  • How better buoyancy helps reduce gas use and protect coral and marine life by avoiding unnecessary contact

What You’ll Achieve

  • Earn your SSI Perfect Buoyancy Specialty certification
  • Improve your overall comfort, control and stability underwater
  • Develop more efficient trim, finning and body positioning
  • Reduce unnecessary movement and potentially improve gas consumption
  • Gain better control when diving close to reefs, walls and sensitive marine environments
