Do you want to visit Roatan?
Welcome to our beautiful island! Roatan belongs to a system of islands and cays called the Bay Islands, 70 km/45 miles North of the Honduran mainland. From East to West it is about 60 km/37 miles long, and from North to South it is 8 km/5 miles at its widest. Because of its narrow shape, many times you will be able to enjoy a panoramic view of both sides of the island and its turquoise waters.
The island is formed by a chain of mountains that goes from East to West covered with lush vegetation. We will find many palm trees, mangos, avocado, cashew, papaya and other exotic fruit trees. But most of this vegetation is jungle, which is home to animals such as the iguana, the guatusa or the wild parrot.
The reef of the Bay Islands is part of the Mesoamerican system, which is the second largest coral reef in the world. The water temperature ranges between 27º/80 F to 29º/84 F and the waters are crystal clear, with visibility up to 40m/132ft. We find a big variety of mangroves and algae, corals and sponges, turtles, sharks and fish of any color.
You will need at least a week to become familiar with the island, its beautiful landscapes and its people! Do not hesitate to contact us if you want to plan a week of activities with Scuba Nomad!
